We are not being paid for more than one year: Contractor

Demand of Rs 80,000 was made.. We negotiated the amount to Rs 40,000: Contractor

The vendor has been warned on a previous occasion: DC

The controversy of corruption  and irregularities in activities of the Indira Canteen has heightened with a contractor publicly alleging a demand for bribes by the commissioner of Hirekerur.  “The authorities in three Indira Canteens in Haveri which are the canteens in Haveri, Hirekerur and Rani Bellur are proving to be a nuisance for us. We are not being paid for more than one year. It is becoming difficult for us to run the Indira canteens. We have written a letter to them stating that it would become difficult for us to continue under these circumstances. They have said they’ll look into the matter within the next 2-3 days but it has been more than 2 months and there has been no update,” Vishwanth Reddy, a contractor for Indira Canteen stated.

The contractors are trying to bring the issue to the notice of the relevant officials. “There has to be a break in the ‘percentage’ being sought. The commissioner of Hirekerur was recently arrested by the Lokayukta. He had made a demand of Rs 80,000. We negotiated the amount to Rs 40,000 in order to secure our payment. He took the money but failed to make the payment,” Vishwanath alleged.

Raghunandana Murthy, The district commissioner of Yadgir had affirmed that the issue is being looked into. “When I talked to the officials in the DUDC, they stated that the details of the bill have not been furnished.  I have called the vendor and the Chief Officer. The vendor has been warned on a previous occasion. He has been served a notice. If there is evidence of having received a commission, the necessary action would be taken. The vendor would have to issue a public apology. These matters can be brought to my notice or to the notice of the DUDC PDR,” Raghunanda said.
