The Karnataka government will open eye banks in all government hospitals in the name of Dr Puneeth Rajkumar. It might be recalled that the actor had pledged his eyes as a part of organ donation.
It can also be noted that since his demise, more than 30,000 youngsters have pledged their eyes.
Puneeth Rajkumar has been nothing short of an inspiration for the younger generation. Known for his philanthropic works, the actor had always urged the youngsters to work in a way so as to benefit the society.
His call for organ donation has been a big hit, especially among youngsters. In Narayana Nethralaya, in the last two years, the number has swelled to 1,40,000!
However, much before that, in a span of 30 years, the number was just 75,000.
Who can donate eyes?
It is heartening to note that anyone irrespective of their age, sex and creed can opt to donate eyes. Furthermore, even if a person has not pledged their eyes during their living days, their eyes can still be donated after death.
Once informed, the doctors will rush to the place of the deceased and retrieve the eyes.
Puneeth Rajkumar passed away on October 29, 2021.
