Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has announced a ₹1,700 crore investment in white-topping roads across Bengaluru, aiming to elevate them to international standards.
During an inspection of ongoing roadworks, Shivakumar emphasized the project's scale and importance. "White-topping is being implemented on 97 roads, covering 150 km. We are constructing durable roads with proper ducts for power and communication cables to prevent future road cutting," he stated.

The project, expected to be completed within 11 months, will be expanded in a second phase to cover an additional 450 km, bringing the total white-topped road network to 1,700 km. Shivakumar stressed the need for coordinated efforts among urban agencies to meet quality and timeline expectations.
On Bengaluru’s tunnel road project, Shivakumar dismissed criticism reportedly made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. "If tunnels are being built in Maharashtra, why not here? The Railway Minister has no role in Bengaluru’s tunnel projects," he asserted.
Addressing concerns over summer water supply, he reassured residents that the Cauvery 5th stage project would ensure adequate water availability and urged citizens to avail connections.
In a broader move to address Bengaluru’s traffic congestion, the Karnataka government has committed ₹1 lakh crore towards infrastructure development, Shivakumar announced at the Invest Karnataka Global Investors Meet.
