In a landmark decision, the state government has approved Phase 3A of the metro network expansion, paving the way for a new 36.59 km-long Red Line from Sarjapur to Hebbal. The Red Line will feature a mix of elevated and underground sections, with 22.14 km of the route on elevated tracks and 14.45 km in tunnels. Commuters will have access to 28 stations, including 17 elevated and 11 underground stops. Notably, five key interchange stations—Ibballur, Agar, Dairy Circle, KR Circle, and Hebbal—are planned to enhance connectivity across the city.

The proposed metro line is designed to ease congestion and offer faster commutes along the Sarjapur-Hebbal corridor. The state government aims to secure central approval for the project within a year, with construction targeted to begin in 2026 and completion expected by 2031. Once operational, the metro network will span 258 km.

Planned stations include Sarjapur, Kodati Gate, Koramangala, NIMHANS, Shantinagar, KR Circle, and Hebbal, among others. With this expansion, the metro aims to cater to a growing urban population while addressing Bengaluru’s traffic challenges.

The cabinet’s decision marks a significant step towards making Bengaluru’s public transport system more robust and commuter-friendly.
