The investigation pertaining to the filming of a girl student in the bathroom of the Netra Jyothi College of Optometry and Para Medical Sciences in Udupi has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by the Karnataka state government. This development took place yesterday evening. The chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah made an announcement pertaining to this on the social media platform, Twitter. The reason for the transfer has been stated as the sensitive nature of the case.
Earlier the National Commision for Women had sent a representative to the college. The representative, Khushboo Sundar had confirmed to the media that the rumours surrounding the instalment of secret cameras in the bathroom was unfounded. The initial reports of the incident suggested that the 3 girls accused of filming were close friends of the victim of the incident.
The Chief Minister of Karnataka had earlier confirmed to the media that the government is not treating the case lightly and a suo moto first information report (FIR) has been filed pertaining to the matter. A deputy superintendent had been handed the responsibility of investigating the case. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were however persistent in their efforts for a probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and had even approached the governor over the same.
