The State Government of Karnataka has offered Rs 50 lakh to the family of martyr Captain Pranjal as a token of solidarity in testing times. “The family of Captain Pranjal who is the nation’s pride who was martyred during an anti terrorist operation in Rajouri, Jammu-Kashmir, has received a compensation of Rs. 50,00,000 (fifty lakhs) which has been sanctioned by our government. An order has been issued in this regard. We have great respect for every soldier who is risking his life for the defence of the country. We cannot fix a price for Captain Pranjal’s sacrifice, but we feel it is our duty to stand with his family at this time on behalf of millions of people of the country during these testing times. A compensation check has been prepared and will be handed over to the family of the deceased soldier tomorrow. Once again, I pay my respects and remember the valuable service and dedication of Captain Pranjal,” the handle of the Chief Minister’s account on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) stated.

Earlier Chief Minister Siddaramiah had forgotten the name of the soldier and when the compensation was due to be paid during an interaction. The opposition parties did not miss out on the opportunity to criticise him for this lapse. “It’s truly unfortunate to see a CM being so arrogant and ungrateful towards Captain Pranjal’s sacrifice. Your callous reference to Captain Pranjal and forgotten promise speaks richly about how casually you see such sacrifices,” BJP MP Tejasvi Surya stated on X.
