Bengaluru, known as the Science and Technology hub, would have a Science City as its new landmark if the state government’s proposal on the same is to materialise.

Karnataka Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology N S Boseraju on August 3 has written to the Union government, appealing it to set up Vigyan Nagar (Science City) in Bengaluru to promote science and innovation among people in the state.

In his letter to G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of the North Eastern Region, Boseraju said that Bengaluru is a Science and Technology hub, and home to institutions like the Indian Institute of Science, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, and Raman Research Institute.

The need for a Science City in Bengaluru is imperative with Bengaluru also having over 400 research and development laboratories in addition to reputed science institutions as mentioned above. A science gallery was also recently opened in Bengaluru.

A new state-of-the-art Science City would greatly benefit people in the field of science in Karnataka, including students, scientists and general public and also contribute to the development of science and technology in the region.

“The Karnataka government is ready to give necessary grants for this project and we have requested the union minister to take steps for approving our project proposal on having a Science City in Bengaluru,” said Boseraju while addressing media in New Delhi.
