With heavy rains, resulting in the KRS Dam being filled, the obligation to release the water to the state of Tamil Nadu arises. The Karnataka State Government has questioned an order stipulating that 1 TMC Of water has to be released to Tamil Nadu on a daily basis. The state government has also expressed apprehension in releasing water for the month of July. In order to take their struggle forward, the government has called for an all-party meeting.
The Cauvery Water Management Authority’s order which stipulates that 1 TMC of water has to be released to Tamil Nadu between July 12th and July 31st has been characterised as not being in sync with the ground reality by the state government. Prospects such as appealing this order will be discussed in the meeting helmed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Invitations have been extended to central ministers, opposition leaders, parliamentarians, legislators around the Kaveri Basin and MLCs.

A 28% deficiency in water is being mentioned by the state government. This is despite predictions from the Indian Meteorological Department. It appears that CM Siddaramaiah wants to take up the issue as something that affects people across Karnataka irrespective of political leanings.
