  • Karnataka govt to introduce revised program modifying Akrama Sakrama rules
  • Move to help farmers obtain ownership of their agricultural land
  • Facilitate legalization of agricultural land through Bagar Hukum system

In a bid to address longstanding challenges related to land cultivation, the Karnataka government is poised to introduce a revised program modifying the Akrama Sakrama rules, enabling holders to obtain ownership of agricultural land.

This initiative aims to provide relief to farmers who have been cultivating government land for an extended period, leveraging technology to streamline and enhance the efficiency of the process.

The modified program, under the Akrama Sakrama rules, will facilitate the legalization of agricultural land through the Bagar Hukum system, administered by the State Revenue Department.

Applicants seeking land ownership are required to submit Form 57 for the legalization of their agricultural holdings. The state government is committed to scrutinizing applications and issuing cultivation vouchers exclusively to those who have actively cultivated the land for a minimum of fifteen years.

Originating in 1980, the Bagar Hukum system was initially established by the government, allocating two acres of land to landless farmers for agricultural activities. However, the beneficiaries of this scheme did not receive the title deed for the cultivated land.

The application window for the modified Akrama Sakrama program extends until April 2023, specifically catering to individuals engaged in cultivation over the past 15 years.

To ensure the rightful distribution of land and prevent ineligible claims, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Karnataka Remote Sensing Application Center will collaborate to collect and analyze satellite images spanning fifteen years.

The government is committed to expeditiously processing pending applications within six months, emphasizing efficiency and transparency in the implementation of the modified Akrama Sakrama program, particularly through the Bagar Hukum system.
