In a major relief for parents, the Karnataka government has decided to address the confusion surrounding the age limit for first-grade admissions. Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa assured that the issue will be resolved within the next few days.
The confusion arose from a 2022 order mandating that children must be six years old by June 1 to secure admission. This rule led to several children missing out on enrollment by just a few days, forcing them to wait an entire year. Parents expressed concerns that this delay could impact their child's education.
NewsFirst had consistently highlighted this issue, urging the government to take corrective action. Following sustained media coverage and public outcry, the Education Department has now confirmed plans to relax the age criteria from the next academic year.
Speaking to the media, Minister Bangarappa acknowledged the concerns of parents and assured them that the government will take a final decision soon. He clarified that although the matter had been in court, the state government now has the authority to settle it. “No child should lose a year due to technicalities,” he emphasized, adding that discussions have been ongoing for two days to find a fair resolution.
A formal announcement is expected within the next two to three days, bringing much-awaited clarity to parents and schools across the state.
