In a significant move to enhance policing and administrative efficiency in India’s tech capital, the Karnataka government has approved the creation of three new police divisions in Bengaluru. This expansion raises the total number of divisions under the Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate from eight to eleven, a step aimed at improving law enforcement coverage in the city’s rapidly growing areas.

The newly sanctioned divisions, North West, South West, and Electronic City are part of a broader urban policing reform first announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the 2024-25 state budget. These additions will function alongside the existing Central, West, East, South, Southeast, North, Northeast, and Whitefield divisions.
With a population of 1.4 crore, Bengaluru is now the third-largest city in India. To cope with its growing security demands, the city currently operates 111 law and order police stations, 53 traffic police stations, and specialized stations including eight women police stations, eight CEN (Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics) units, and one cybercrime police station.
Each of the three new divisions will be led by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and will be supported by a team consisting of an Assistant Sub-Inspector, five head constables, six constables, and 11 additional support staff.
The North West Division will include the Peenya sub-division and will oversee six police stations including Peenya, Rajagopal Nagar, Bagalagunte, Byadarahalli, Soladevanahalli, and Gangammanagudi.
The South West Division will comprise two sub-divisions, Kengeri and Subramanyapura, covering a total of eight police stations, including Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Thalaghattapura, and Kumaraswamy Layout.
The Electronic City Division will consist of one sub-division managing six police stations, including Electronic City, Hulimavu, Beguru, and Hebbagodi, key hubs for tech and residential growth.
