In a significant move towards fostering growth, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alongside cabinet ministers, inaugurated the Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation (KWIN) City near Bengaluru on Thursday. Previously known as Knowledge, Health, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City, the project was rebranded to reflect its broader scope.
What is KWIN City?
Strategically located between Doddaspete and Doddaballapur, approximately 60 kilometers from Bengaluru, KWIN City aims to provide a parallel hub for development outside the crowded capital. The new city, spread over 2,000 acres on the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR), is expected to house top-tier educational institutions, start-ups, research facilities, and global healthcare centers.

With proximity to the Kempegowda International Airport, just an hour away, KWIN City is positioned to attract significant investment and talent. The project is being implemented by the Department of Commerce and Industries, and experts predict a surge in real estate development in the surrounding areas.
Karnataka Minister MB Patil highlighted the project's economic potential, stating that KWIN City could bring in ₹40,000 crores in investments and generate around 80,000 jobs. “This city will play a major role in boosting Karnataka's GDP, leveraging the state’s strong public-private partnerships,” Patil remarked.
KWIN City is expected to serve as a major driver of innovation, economic growth, and employment in Karnataka.
