The government has granted permission to hire 150 engineers through the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). This move is aimed at addressing the workload concerns within the Engineer Department of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as part of the Department of Urban Development's initiative.
This decision got approval from the Finance Department on August 21, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who oversees Bangalore City, also giving his consent.
Consequently, the recruitment process for 100 Assistant Engineers (Civil) and 50 Junior Engineers, which was long pending in the corporation, is set to commence.
This marks a significant development as the Urban Development Department, after a hiatus of 13 years since the last recruitment in 2009-10, has finally announced the hiring of engineers within the BBMP.
Previously, engineering positions were filled on a contract basis through the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation, but the government's recent decision to utilize the KPSC for direct recruitment of assistant and junior engineers signifies a noteworthy shift in approach.
The initial phase of this recruitment drive will involve hiring 100 assistant engineers and 50 junior engineers within the corporation, as confirmed by a circular issued by NK Lakshmi Sagar, Under Secretary to the Government of the Urban Development Department (BBMP).
Additionally, once these positions are filled through KPSC, the government has directed to subsequently reduce the number of assistant and junior engineers employed on an assignment and contract basis within the corporation.
