In a deeply tragic incident, a senior head constable from Karnataka's Chikkaballapura district died by suicide after falling into a massive financial crisis caused by online betting addiction. The deceased has been identified as Rajshekhar, a police officer with over 25 years of service, most recently posted at the Manchenahalli Police Station.

Rajshekhar, known for his friendly demeanor and public-friendly policing, had returned home briefly around 3 AM after completing a night shift for a temple festival deployment. After resting for a few hours, he told his family he would report for duty by 7 AM. Instead, he ended his life in the rest room of the police station premises.
Sources reveal that Rajshekhar had become addicted to online betting platforms, particularly rummy apps, and had reportedly lost nearly Rs 40 lakh. In an attempt to recover the losses, he had taken loans, which added to his mounting stress. What started as a gamble for quick wealth spiraled into unbearable debt and emotional distress.
Once a well-respected officer who served in several police stations across Chikkaballapur district, Rajshekhar's downfall was sudden and heartbreaking. Despite a steady income and a stable family life, the lure of overnight riches through betting led to his tragic end. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Chikkaballapur SP Kushal Chouksey and Manchenahalli police have visited the site. The body was taken to the district hospital for a postmortem examination.
An official case has been registered, and further inquiry is underway.
