Syed Ali, a 25-year-old dance instructor, was arrested by Jigani police for a series of robberies, including a high-profile chain-snatching incident last August. Driven by his love for a woman and concern for her ailing mother, Ali turned to crime to fund the elderly woman's costly heart treatment. His efforts, however, led him down a path of escalating criminal behavior.
Last August, Ali targeted a woman named Ratnamma in Anekal, snatching two gold chains worth approximately Rs 8 lakh. Disguising himself as a customer buying cigarettes, he approached on a bullet bike before committing the robbery and fleeing the scene. Ratnamma promptly lodged a complaint, and CCTV footage became key evidence that led to Ali’s arrest. Police recovered jewellery and seized two bikes during the operation.

Ali's criminal record extends beyond this incident, with pending cases in Tumakuru, Ramanagara, and Davanagere. Previously arrested, he managed to escape police custody on multiple occasions, resulting in severe consequences for law enforcement personnel. Several officers were reportedly dismissed due to their failure to prevent his escape.
While Ali’s story appears to be fueled by love and desperation, it underscores the severe consequences of taking illegal measures. Jigani police emphasized their commitment to bringing habitual offenders to justice while stressing that compassion-driven motives do not justify criminal acts.
Residents expressed relief at Ali’s capture but lamented the circumstances that drove a young man with promise to crime. Authorities are continuing their investigations into his past activities to ensure justice for all affected parties.
The case serves as a stark reminder that even well-intentioned motives, if pursued unlawfully, can lead to lasting harm. Ali's future now rests with the courts, as he faces accountability for his actions and the possibility of rehabilitation away from a life of crime.
