Impending ban on children’s favorite cotton candy and Gobi Manchurian

Decision in this regard from health department is anticipated tomorrow

FSSAI tests found carcinogenic chemicals in the artificial colours used

The impending ban on children’s favorite treats, cotton candy and Gobi Manchurian, has disappointed many across the state, leaving many dismayed.

Even as children’s beloved cotton candy faces a statewide ban, with Gobi Manchurian likely to join the list, an announcement in this regard from the state’s health department is anticipated tomorrow. Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao will lead a significant press conference addressing this matter.

The decision to ban these popular snacks stems from rigorous testing conducted by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Department of Health. Shockingly, the scrutiny revealed the presence of carcinogenic chemicals in the artificial colours used in both cotton candy and Gobi Manchurian. Specifically, cotton candy was found to contain harmful rhodamine-B, while Gobi Manchurian was tainted with Sunset Yellow dye and tartrazine.

The scale of the issue is alarming, with over 170 locations across the state subjected to Gobi Manchurian sample testing, resulting in more than 100 samples being flagged as unsafe. Similarly, numerous cotton candy samples were also deemed hazardous during testing, indicating a widespread problem that demands immediate attention.

For many, the news comes as a blow, as these treats hold a special place in the hearts of children and adults alike. However, the paramount concern remains the health and safety of the populace, prompting authorities to take decisive action in the face of these findings.

As the state braces itself for the forthcoming announcement, questions linger about the potential impact on businesses and the culinary landscape. Yet, amidst the uncertainty, there is a shared hope that this measure will ultimately safeguard public health and pave the way for safer, more transparent food practices in the future.
