In response to the escalating cases of Kysanur Forest Disease (KFD), commonly known as 'monkey fever,' health authorities in Karnataka are taking proactive measures to address the situation.
A meeting was convened by the health and family welfare department, focusing on three districts where the outbreak has been prominent. The affected districts include Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru, with a total of 49 reported cases and two fatalities since the beginning of the year.
Health commissioner D Randeep emphasized the urgency of the situation, revealing that ten cases were reported within a 48-hour timeframe from two primary health centers. In response, health officials have been placed on high alert, and comprehensive preparations are underway to curb the spread of the disease. Hospitals have been equipped with necessary resources, and public awareness campaigns on preventive measures are actively being conducted in the affected regions.
To address the immediate threat, the health department is distributing DEPA oil at no cost to the public, urging individuals to apply it before entering forested areas.
Health commissioner Randeep reassured the availability of an ample stock of the oil and other essential medicines. The collaborative efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the Kysanur Forest Disease outbreak and protect the health and well-being of the local population.
