State government releases guidelines against Zika virus
In the backdrop of Zika virus being detected in a mosquito in Chikkaballapur; all fever cases in the state have come under the scanner, the state government has also released guidelines against Zika virus.
If symptoms of the disease are found, it has advised patients to visit hospital and consult doctor immediately. Symptoms of the disease include: redness in eyes, headache, fever, joint pain, muscle pain etc.
Health department has advised public to exercise responsibility and caution to prevent the spread of Zika virus.
The department has also asked people of the state to keep water storage facilities covered and cleaned once a week.
Its other advisories include: Clean or close stagnant dirty water pits in the neighbourhood, dispose of solid waste material properly, follow self defence methods, use mosquito nets, mosquito repellants while children, elderly people are resting.
Mosquitoes usually breed in stagnant water. Therefore, precautions should be taken to prevent stagnant water around the house.
If every person takes responsibility and exercises precautions, the chances of spreading the virus will be reduced.
Zika virus symptoms are mild and moderate and last for 2 to 7 days. Pregnant women should be especially careful. Treatment is given according to symptoms. The health department has advised people to contact the nearest government hospital/doctor in case of any Zika virus symptoms.
