In a significant development, the much-awaited Social and Educational Survey Report–2024 will be placed before the state cabinet in a meeting scheduled for tomorrow. The report, which is expected to influence major policy decisions, was submitted to the government in a sealed envelope by the Backward Classes Commission, headed by H. Kantaraj.

The Commission had conducted a comprehensive caste census across Karnataka between April 11 and May 30, 2015. The survey, carried out in collaboration with district administrations, collected data on 54 parameters, including caste details. The entire report has since been digitized for further analysis and record-keeping.
The Kantaraj Commission formally submitted its findings on February 29, 2024. Later, the government directed the Backward Classes Commission under Jayaprakash Hegde to prepare a study report based on this data. This directive was issued on July 17, 2023.
The Study Report on the Social and Educational Survey–2024, compiled using data from the original Kantaraj survey, was submitted in another sealed envelope. While it was initially proposed for discussion in the cabinet meeting on January 2, 2025, it is now confirmed that the report will finally be presented tomorrow.
This move is seen as a historic step toward data-driven social justice and welfare policies, particularly in addressing the needs of backward communities through accurate demographic insights.
