There has been a 226.35% increase in the number of Dengue cases in comparison to the previous year. In Bengaluru alone, 2969 cases of Dengue have been identified in the last 2 months. The total figure for the entire year is 3454 cases. Up till September, only 1058 cases had been recorded in the year of 2022. This itself was a spike from 520 cases that were reported in the year up till September in 2021.
“During the covid-19 pandemic, we witnessed hospitals filling up rapidly with patients. Now, however, we are observing a surge in dengue cases. As platelet counts drop and additional symptoms manifest, doctors are recommending hospital admission to prevent the risk of severe complications. The rising number of dengue cases across the city underscores the severity of the situation, emphasising the critical need for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take prompt and effective measures.” A doctor had stated in an interaction with the Bengaluru Mirror.
BBMP Special Commissioner Dr KV Thrilok Chandra has attributed the increase to reflect the changes in data collection policies that now includes data from private hospitals.
With large portions of the state experiencing a surge in rain, people are being affected by Dengue, Malaria, Fever and general cold. The number of Malaria cases have also increased.
