The Karnataka Janapada Academy has announced the 2024 Janapada Akademi Awards, recognizing 30 folk artists—one from each district—with the annual honorary award. Additionally, two experts have been honored with the Janapada Expert Award. The announcement was made by Academy President Gollahalli Shivaprasad during a press conference at Kannada Bhavan.

Among the recipients are renowned folk artists across various traditional art forms. Notable awardees include Dr. Jogila Siddharaju (Tattvapada and Gigipada), Siddaya C.H. (Dollukunita), M. Mahesh (Kolata), Sunandamma (Arevadya-Tamate), Venkataramanappa (Kinnari Jogi), and Siddappa (Davanagere Bhajan). Others recognized include artists specializing in Hagaluvesha, Hase Chittar, leather instruments, tribal Kolata, and other folk traditions.

In the expert category, Dr. Mailahalli Revanna from Mysuru has received the Dr. G. Shampa Award, while Dr. Venkatesh Indwadi from Vijayanagar has been honored with the Dr. B.S. Gaddi Math Award.

Each folk artist will receive Rs. 25,000 along with a souvenir, shawl, and garland, while the expert awardees will be granted Rs. 50,000.

The award ceremony, covering both 2023 and 2024 honorees, is scheduled for March 15 at the Bidar Theatre. Ministers from the Kannada and Culture Department and the Forest Department, along with other dignitaries, are expected to attend.

Academy Registrar S. Namrata and several members were present at the press conference.
