In an era marked by escalating living expenses, the common people find themselves burdened with the incessant rise in the prices of essentials such as petrol, diesel, and cooking oil. Adding to their woes, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is once again proposing a hike in bus fares.

The financially struggling corporation has deemed a fare increase necessary to mitigate its losses. KSRTC's new proposal, suggesting a 10 percent hike in ticket prices, follows a previous request for a 20 percent hike that was not approved.

Amidst a backdrop of rising fuel costs and inflation, this proposal is set to be submitted to the government for consideration. The corporation cites the steep prices of bus spare parts and a decline in passenger numbers as significant factors contributing to reduced ticket revenue. Consequently, KSRTC officials argue that without this fare hike, maintaining bus services will become increasingly difficult.

Interestingly, despite the financial challenges, KSRTC has reported an increase in passengers this year, attributed to the Shakti Yojana which facilitates free travel for women to religious sites.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated that a decision will be made once the fare hike proposal is reviewed. If approved, the fare increase could see ticket prices rise by Rs.2 to Rs.3 per stage.

As KSRTC awaits the government's decision, the common people brace for the potential impact of yet another price hike in their daily commute, adding to the strain of an already expensive world.
