Infosys, which recently laid off over 300 trainees at its Mysuru campus after they failed three consecutive evaluation tests, maintained that it remains a net hirer. The company emphasized its large workforce of over 300,000 employees and plans to onboard 20,000 freshers in FY26.
To support affected trainees, Infosys provided transportation from Mysuru, temporary accommodation, severance pay for one month, counseling, and outplacement assistance. Additional training opportunities were also extended.
The company explained its hiring model to government officials, highlighting the one-year timeline between issuing offer letters and onboarding employees, which includes graduation completion, training, and project allocation.
Infosys reiterated that its internal assessments, part of a longstanding process, ensure high-quality talent for clients. Freshers undergo foundational training at the Mysuru campus and must pass assessments within three attempts to continue with the company.
The layoffs come amid challenging market conditions, with trainees facing an extended onboarding wait of over two years.
