Karnataka: Lokayukta raids uncover Rs 34.90 Cr in unaccounted assets from eight govt officials

In a sweeping anti-corruption operation, the Karnataka Lokayukta on Tuesday conducted simultaneous raids at 45 locations across the state, uncovering disproportionate assets worth Rs 34.90 crore from eight government officials. The seized assets include jewellery valued at Rs 3.72 crore, immovable properties worth Rs 23.02 crore, and Rs 27.55 lakh in cash.

Among the key findings, Dr. S. Pradeep, a professor at the University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences in Shivamogga, was found with assets worth Rs 6.34 crore. His portfolio included five sites, a house, over 16 acres of farmland, livestock, jewellery, and significant bank holdings.

BBMP executive engineer Prakash K.S. was found in possession of assets valued at Rs 5.70 crore, comprising real estate, luxury vehicles, and high-value jewellery. Similarly, Anekal’s municipal chief K.G. Amarnath allegedly amassed Rs 3.85 crore in unaccounted wealth.

In Kalaburagi, two officials — Mallikarjuna Allipur and Ramachandrappa — reportedly held assets of Rs 6.32 crore and Rs 2.18 crore, respectively. Their holdings included agricultural land, houses, sites, and substantial cash reserves.

Ashok L. Vasanad, a senior engineer in Dharwad, reportedly owned Rs 6.11 crore in assets, while Chikkamagaluru’s Lathamani D.B. and Gadag police inspector D.B. Patil held Rs 2.89 crore and Rs 1.48 crore, respectively.

The raids highlight persistent concerns about corruption in public service and are part of the Lokayukta’s intensified drive to curb illegal wealth accumulation.
