  • Karnataka MLAs choose mass wedding, inspiring simplicity
  • 75 couples, including MLA kin, marry in a community event
  • Praise for promoting simplicity over extravagance

At a time when weddings of political leaders’ families are often extravagant affairs costing crores, two Karnataka MLAs have set a refreshing example by opting for simplicity. Muski MLA Basanagouda Turvihal and Raichur Rural MLA Basanagouda Daddal have conducted family weddings as part of a mass marriage ceremony, inspiring many.

The wedding of MLA Turvihal’s son Satish and MLA Daddal’s brother's daughter Aishwarya took place at the Amoghasiddeshwara Mutt in Turvihal on Saturday. They joined 75 other couples in a grand yet simple ceremony that focused on community welfare rather than lavish spending.

Such an initiative is rare among politicians, as weddings of MLAs’ children usually involve opulence, from grand engagements to luxurious receptions. However, this decision has been widely appreciated for promoting the message of simplicity and inclusivity.

The event was graced by ministers Byrathi Suresh, Sharanaprakash Patil, N.S. Bosaraju, and several other dignitaries. Alongside the weddings, the unveiling of Sangolli Rayanna and Kanakadasa statues, inauguration of government projects, and foundation stone-laying ceremonies were also held.

By prioritizing a simple, community-driven celebration over extravagance, the two MLAs have set a positive precedent, proving that weddings can be meaningful without excessive spending.
