In a tragic incident that has shocked the residents of Uttara Kannada in Karnataka, a 32-year-old woman has been arrested on murder charges after allegedly throwing her six-year-old son into a canal known to be inhabited by crocodiles. The incident took place on Saturday night in Halamadi village.

The woman, identified as Savitri, and her husband, Ravi Kumar (36), reportedly had frequent clashes over their son Vinod's hearing and speech impairment. Following a heated argument on Saturday night, Savitri allegedly threw Vinod into the canal around 9 pm. The canal connects to the crocodile-infested River Kali.

Despite search efforts by police and fire brigade divers, Vinod's body could not be located on Saturday night due to darkness. However, on Sunday morning, the search team recovered the child's body from the jaws of a crocodile. The body showed severe injuries and bite marks, indicating a gruesome end to the young boy's life.

Savitri and Ravi Kumar, who work as a house help and a mason helper respectively, appeared in court and were remanded to 14-day judicial custody. In a statement to reporters, Savitri accused her husband of mental torture and blamed him for their son's death, alleging that he repeatedly expressed a desire for the child to die. The case has stirred widespread outrage and highlights the urgent need for support and intervention in cases of domestic conflict and mental health issues.
