A medical expert committee investigating the potential link between COVID-19 vaccines and heart attacks is set to submit its findings to the Health Minister on Monday. The decision comes after a virtual meeting held today with the Department’s Principal Secretary, during which the committee finalized its conclusions.

The panel, which examined health data from approximately 250 individuals, found no direct evidence linking COVID-19 vaccines to heart attacks. Instead, the report highlights that patients who had previously contracted COVID-19 experienced a range of health complications, some of which were attributed to the medications used during their treatment.
The report also notes a rise in depression and mental health issues in the post-COVID period, which could indirectly impact cardiovascular health. Statistically, men have been found to suffer heart attacks more frequently. However, cases among women have also increased, particularly after menopause due to hormonal imbalances.
Additional contributing factors include obesity and diabetes, which saw an increase during the pandemic. High consumption of red and processed meat was also flagged as a concern, as it raises cholesterol levels, leading to weight gain and increased heart attack risk.
Despite reports of several deaths due to heart attacks, the committee noted the absence of comprehensive data. It has recommended that the government maintain a dedicated heart attack registry for better monitoring and future preparedness.
