The Karnataka government has proposed a peripheral tunnel road to link multiple national highways converging in Bengaluru. This initiative is part of a broader infrastructure push, with 12 key projects submitted for central approval during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

As Bengaluru gears up for the ₹40,000-crore tunnel road connecting its North-South and East-West corridors, the government is also exploring connectivity enhancements such as the Hebbal-Silk Board and K.R. Puram-Mysuru Road (Nayandahalli) tunnel links. The newly proposed peripheral tunnel would integrate Mysuru Road (NH-275) and Hosur Road (NH-48 & NH-75) via Tumakuru Road (NH-48), Ballari Road (NH-44), and Old Madras Road (Old NH-4), aiming to streamline traffic flow across the city.
In discussions held in Delhi, the Chief Minister also urged the Centre to upgrade state highways handling over 10,000 passenger car units (PCU) daily. Additionally, he sought approval for national highway works worth ₹24,000 crore under the 2025-26 annual plan to support Karnataka’s socio-economic development.
Earlier, six projects had received the Centre’s nod, and the State is now pushing for further infrastructure expansion to alleviate Bengaluru’s congestion and enhance connectivity across Karnataka.
