The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has proposed a Rs 5 per litre hike for Nandini milk, marking the steepest increase in three years. If approved by the state government, the revised pricing will take effect after the state budget on March 7. Alongside the price hike, KMF plans to standardize milk packets to one litre, reversing a previous 50 ml increase per litre introduced last year. This would raise the price of toned milk from Rs 44 to Rs 47 per litre.

The proposed hike comes amid a series of rising costs across essential commodities and services. Coffee powder prices are set to rise by Rs 200 per kg, while fare increases have already been implemented for BMTC buses and Namma Metro. Additionally, electricity providers have sought approval for a 67 paise per unit tariff hike, and the government is considering raising water charges.

Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, lashed out at the government, accusing it of financial mismanagement. Criticizing the frequent price hikes, he questioned whether farmers would truly benefit from the increase or if the government would retain the funds. He also alleged that Karnataka’s development had stagnated under the current administration.

With multiple cost escalations affecting daily life, public frustration is mounting over the government’s economic policies.
