Karnataka has seen a troubling rise in cases of sexual assault involving minor boys, challenging the perception that only girls are at risk of such crimes. In 2024 alone, 32 cases of sexual assault against minor boys have been reported across the state under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting a persistent issue. Bengaluru accounted for seven of these cases, underscoring that such incidents are not limited to rural or less-populated areas.

The cases reveal a disturbing reality that boys, too, are vulnerable to sexual abuse and harassment. In comparison, 33 similar cases were reported statewide in 2023, reflecting the persistent nature of the problem. Authorities acknowledge that sexual violence against boys often goes underreported due to social stigma, lack of awareness, and fear of backlash, further complicating efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.

Activists and child welfare groups are calling for a more inclusive approach to address sexual violence, emphasizing the need for widespread awareness campaigns, sensitization programs, and stricter law enforcement to protect all children, regardless of gender.

The rise in reported cases shows that more victims are coming forward, but advocates stress that society must do more to create a safe environment for all minors.
