Meera Nayak, an ASI from the APMC police station in Hubballi, was deployed for security duty in connection with the Mahalakshmi Devi fair in Gokak. During the assignment, he was staying at the SC/ST boys' hostel in the city.
According to reports, Nayak experienced sudden chest pain around 6 a.m. this morning. Despite immediate concern, he succumbed to what is believed to be a severe heart attack. His body has since been shifted to the mortuary at the Gokak Government Hospital for further procedures.
This incident adds to growing concerns over the increasing number of heart-related fatalities in the state. The health department and experts have recently highlighted various factors contributing to this trend, including post-COVID complications, lifestyle disorders, and stress.
Authorities have expressed condolences and are expected to conduct a medical review to confirm the cause of death. The case underscores the urgent need for better cardiac monitoring and support for frontline personnel working under high-pressure conditions.
