The Karnataka government has been flaunting the success of the “Shakti Scheme” which guarantees free bus travel for women across the state. The government recently revealed that Rs 1669.45 crore have been reimbursed to the 4 regional transport corporations. “From June 2023 till November 2023, the government disbursed ₹1,66,945 lakh to road transport corporations ( Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC),North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and Kalyan Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC)). KSRTC received ₹62,511.66 lakh (₹625.11 crore), BMTC received ₹29,465.09 lakh (₹294.65 crore), NWKRTC received ₹41,746.46 lakh (₹417.46 crore), and KKRTC received ₹33,221.78 lakh (₹332.21 crore),” Transport and Muzrai Minister in the Government of Karnataka and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Indian National Congress (INC) from the Byrasandra, Tavarkere and Madiwala (BTM) Layout,  Ramalinga Reddy mentioned in the Karnataka state assembly.

But a certain sect of people have also been pointing out the range of problems which they have been facing ever since the launch of the scheme. A viral video from Tumkur showcased complaints young women who were students had with the scheme. They had issues with regard to difficulty in entering the bus, the regularity of the buses and the lack of ease in travel. They have held the government as responsible for the state of affairs. They have raised the point that the scheme would have been fruitful had it been applicable only to students and not all women. The government would have to come up with solutions to their genuine problem.
