Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s administration is facing mounting controversy as serious allegations have surfaced against Excise Minister RB Thimmapura. The Excise Department, under Thimmapura’s oversight, has come under fire following claims of large-scale corruption, with reports suggesting the ministry is generating illicit revenue of nearly ₹500 crore annually. Additionally, accusations have emerged that approximately ₹200 crore is being collected annually through unethical transfer practices within the department.

The scandal has sparked outrage among liquor store owners across Karnataka, who allege systematic exploitation by excise officials. As a form of protest, liquor store owners have called for a statewide strike on November 20, expressing their frustrations and demanding accountability. In response to these allegations, a formal complaint has been lodged with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging him to transfer the minister. A complaint has also been filed with the Lokayukta, and permission has been sought from Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to initiate further investigation.

This controversy compounds Siddaramaiah’s troubles, as he is already entangled in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, where an FIR has been lodged against him. The dual scandals have raised serious questions about the government’s integrity, with opposition leaders calling for swift and transparent action to restore public trust in the administration.
