Karnataka Congress leader M Srinivas, who was a former Zila Panchayat President in Kolar was hacked to death by 6 individuals in his farmhouse in Kolar. M Srinivas is known to have been close to Home Minister G Parameshwara and former Speaker Ramesh Kumar.
The attack is said to have taken place when M Srinivas returned to his farmhouse after supervising the construction of his bar. “Srinivas knew them and offered them coffee. The security official with him went to arrange it. He had 3-4 chairs around him and some of the assailants sat down on them. Then one of them sprayed some chemical in his eyes and he started screaming. Another attacker started stabbing him, after which he ran towards the wall. His bodyguard saw this but he also ran away in panic,” a senior police official said as per a report in India Today.
Three of the suspects had been apprehended and were being escorted by the police. A violent confrontation ensued in the Lakshmisagar region when the suspects attempted to escape by attacking the police officers. The main accused, Venugopal and Manindra, sustained gunshot injuries in the leg, while Santhosh was also injured during the retaliatory firing by the police. Inspector Venkatesh, along with police personnel Manjunath and Nagesh were also wounded and are receiving treatment in the Kolar District Hospital. The 3 suspects are currently under police custody.
