Karnataka is poised to mark a major leap in regional connectivity with the inauguration of the Sigandur Bridge on July 14. Spanning 2.44 kilometres across the Sharavathi River in Shivamogga district, the bridge ranks as the second-longest in the state and stands among the country’s most significant infrastructure undertakings.

The bridge connects Kalasavalli and Ambaragodlu villages in Sagar taluk, serving as a vital link in an area that has long relied on barges for river crossings. For decades, thousands of residents and pilgrims travelling to the revered Sigandur Sri Chowdeshwari temple have faced delays and transportation challenges. The new bridge promises to eliminate these hurdles, offering a faster, safer, and more reliable route.

Constructed at a cost of ₹473 crore, the bridge is named after the local deity, symbolising not just functional development but also cultural heritage. It is expected to bolster tourism, enhance local trade, and facilitate seamless travel across this remote region of Malnad.

The inauguration, which will be attended by key Union ministers, underscores the national importance of the project. Beyond its engineering scale, the Sigandur Bridge represents progress for rural communities and economic prospects for the region.

This development highlights Karnataka’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life through strategic investments in connectivity. The launch marks a turning point, paving the way for growth, access, and regional pride.
