The incident took place on March 6, when a group of four tourists, including two foreign nationals, ventured near the Tungabhadra canal for stargazing. Three youths approached them under the pretext of asking for directions but soon turned violent, robbing them and pushing them into the canal. While three managed to escape, one woman went missing, and her body was later recovered. The attackers are also accused of sexually assaulting two of the women.

In response, law enforcement agencies have intensified their efforts, leading to the arrest of two suspects, while the search continues for more individuals involved. The state government is now reviewing existing security measures at tourist hubs, aiming to introduce stricter surveillance and safety protocols.

With Karnataka being a major tourist destination, officials are determined to restore confidence among visitors and ensure such incidents do not recur. The crackdown on perpetrators and enhanced security measures are expected to reinforce safety at popular tourist sites across the state.
