  • Transport of Tomatoes to north India has reduced
  • The tomato prices have come down to Rs 70 per kg
  • Possibility of heavy rains in late August could increase prices

The transport of Tomatoes to states in northern India has reduced and this has had a significant impact on the prices. This has led to a surplus of stocks in the markets.

The tomato prices have come down to Rs 70 per kg from Rs 150 per kg. A few weeks back the price for a 15 kg box of tomatoes was Rs 2700. Last week the price for the same was around Rs 2200 in Bengaluru. At the start of the week the price of the box was around Rs 1400 to Rs 1500. On Wednesday it was sold at Rs 1100. On Thursday it went down to as low as Rs 600 to Rs 800. It is being predicted that by next month the prices would fall to Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg or even below that range.

But the possibility of heavy rains in late August could act as a hindrance. It could potentially destroy crops in which case a rise in price could be expected yet again.
