  • It's a collaboration between ISEC and Ministry of Health
  • Similar clocks to be installed in 18 research centres across India

A new Digital Population Clock has been launched to provide real-time updates of population figures for both Karnataka and India. The clock, designed to track demographic changes continuously, updates Karnataka’s population every 1.10 minutes and India’s population every two seconds. This initiative aims to raise awareness of population dynamics while providing accurate data crucial for research and policymaking.

The project is the result of a collaboration between the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). By offering real-time updates, the clock allows citizens and policymakers to witness population growth as it happens, providing a dynamic view of demographic changes.

Equipped with satellite connections, the clock operates autonomously, ensuring precise timekeeping. Advanced software tools are used for accurate demographic monitoring, making it an essential tool for population studies. This system is not unique to Karnataka—similar clocks are being installed in 18 Population Research Centres across the country to strengthen national population studies.

The initiative holds significant value for researchers and policymakers, offering up-to-date information that will enhance the understanding of population trends and contribute to more informed policy decisions. It also supports improved quality in research related to demographic changes, providing essential data for future planning.
