DK Shivakumar alleged that BJP-JDS alliance would hinder scheme implementation
DK Shivakumar instructed workers of the Congress to ensure that this message reaches out to the public
DK Shivakumar accused BJP of having double standards
Would the guarantees laid out by Congress in the lead up to the elections be cancelled? This speculation arose from none other than the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar. It has not even been more than a year since the schemes have been implemented.
The reason for this discourse is the upcoming Lok Sabha election. DK Shivakumar highlighted this as a potential consequence of the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Janata Dal Secular (JDS) alliance. This is not to indicate that the Congress will roll back the guarantees but that there would be attempts to prevent its implementation by the Central Government were the BJP-JDS alliance to achieve victory. This is the sentiment which DK Shivakumar expressed on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Shrimati Indira Gandhi. He instructed workers of the Congress to ensure that this message reaches out to the public.
He further accused BJP of having double standards. He claimed that despite expressing discontentment for such schemes while in the opposition, they have themselves rolled out similar schemes in various states that are headed towards the election.
To what extent these fears are justified would be clear only when the dust settles after the Lok Sabha elections.
