The Karnataka State Women’s Commission has formally urged the Bengaluru Police Commissioner to take swift action against a rising wave of online abuse targeting women, particularly directed at former MP and actor Ramya. The abuse, allegedly propagated by fans of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, includes derogatory content that has sparked concern among women’s rights advocates.

The Commission's appeal, sent on Monday, emphasized the serious impact such online harassment has on women’s dignity. It called for immediate removal of abusive content from social media and sought identification and punishment of those responsible.

Ramya, also known as Divya Spandana, has reportedly begun gathering offensive messages to file an official complaint. On July 27, she posted screenshots of some of the abusive remarks on Instagram, highlighting the dangerous influence of misogynistic trolling.

This incident unfolds amid ongoing controversy surrounding Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently out on bail in a high-profile murder case. The victim, 33-year-old Renukaswamy from Chitradurga, was allegedly killed after he posted derogatory comments about Pavitra Gowda, an associate of the actor.

The actor’s fanbase, which refers to him as “D-Boss,” is widely known for its aggressive defense of him online. The latest wave of trolling directed at Ramya has further intensified public debate on the toxic culture of online fandom and the urgent need for accountability on digital platforms.
