  • ASP NV Baramani sought voluntary retirement after facing public humiliation by CM Siddaramaiah at a Belagavi rally
  • He cited emotional distress, family trauma, and lack of departmental support following the incident
  • The state government is yet to decide on accepting his resignation

The Karnataka government has not yet made a decision on the voluntary retirement request submitted by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) NV Baramani. The officer submitted his resignation on June 14, citing emotional distress and a loss of morale after a public altercation with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during a political rally in Belagavi on April 28.

Baramani was assigned stage security duty during a Congress protest against inflation when the Chief Minister, angered by a disturbance caused by BJP women workers near the stage, publicly reprimanded him. The officer alleged that Siddaramaiah shouted at him in front of a large crowd and raised his hand as if to slap him before stopping short. The incident was caught on camera and broadcast repeatedly on news channels.

Baramani stated that although no physical contact occurred, the public nature of the humiliation deeply affected him and his family. He said the emotional fallout at home was severe, with his family in visible distress. He also noted that no senior police officials reached out to him after the incident, which left him feeling isolated and unsupported.

According to Baramani, the episode damaged his reputation within the department and created discomfort during official meetings, ultimately impairing his ability to perform his duties and prompting his request for retirement.
