Karnataka: You can soon purchase KSRTC bus tickets using UPI; ETMs to be introduced

    10,500 ETMs will be procured in first phase

Buses operating under the banner of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) are preparing to incorporate the ETM (Electronic Ticketing Machine) into their apparatus. 

With the introduction of this system, credit cards, debit cards and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) can be used for purchasing tickets. 

The location at which the bus was boarded and the destination stop can be entered through the use of a touch screen. This technology has already been put to use across buses in the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). 

In the first phase 10,500 ETMs will be procured by the KSRTC. It will first be introduced in 12 cities. These include Bengaluru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Chamarajnagar, Kolar, Chikballapur, Tumkur, Hassan, Mangaluru, Davangere and Shivamogga. 

This will reduce the burden on conductors. Also it will resolve issues that arise from a hassle for change. The route and schedule of KSRTC buses will be available on the ETMs. This will be achieved through the use of the General Packet Radio System (GPRS). The KSRTC is making preparations to release tenders for the procurement of ETMs.
