A 21-year-old man from Kolar district in Karnataka died after consuming five bottles of undiluted alcohol as part of a high-stakes drinking challenge with a friend. The incident took place in Pujarahalla village on Sunday night.
The deceased, identified as Karthik, had reportedly accepted a Rs 10,000 bet from a friend, Venkata Reddy, to drink all five bottles without water. After consuming the alcohol in quick succession, Karthik collapsed. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but died during treatment.
The tragic incident has sparked concern in the community, particularly because Karthik had recently become a father. His wife had given birth to a baby girl just nine days before his death. The couple had been married for about a year.
Local police in Mulbagal have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case. Authorities are looking into potential legal implications and are urging the public to avoid dangerous behaviour involving alcohol.
The case has renewed focus on the health risks associated with alcohol consumption.
