In a dramatic turn of events at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail, actor Darshan's legal counsel has accused authorities of providing no minimum infrastructure to the actor while offering VIP treatment to high-profile prisoners such as rapist Umesh Reddy and terrorists. Darshan, currently accused in the Chitradurga Renukaswamy murder case, has approached the Bengaluru Sessions Court with a petition alleging that despite a court order, he has been denied basic facilities in the jail.
Lack of even the most basic infrastructure for Darshan
Sunil, Darshan's lawyer, argued that while notorious criminals like Umesh Reddy enjoy luxurious amenities, including color TVs, Darshan has been subjected to a lack of even the most basic infrastructure. He further criticized the 45-day quarantine of the actor, questioning why he is being held under such strict security measures, unlike other VIP prisoners. Sunil suggested that Darshan’s treatment was discriminatory, highlighting that the court had ordered only a 14-day quarantine for prisoners.
The hearing saw Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agrahara jail, Suresh, and SPP Prasannakumar, representing jail authorities, present in court. Sunil accused SPP Prasannakumar of misleading the jailer and fabricating laws to justify the alleged mistreatment. The judge, however, dismissed further discussion on the matter, stating that the court had other matters to address.
The case is ongoing, and further proceedings are expected to shed more light on the issue.
