Former Karnataka minister and BJP MLA Suresh Kumar completes a 702-km cycling journey from Bengaluru to Kanyakumari, marking 50 years of his first historic cycle trip and overcoming a major health setback.
Former Karnataka minister and senior BJP leader Suresh Kumar has once again drawn attention for his commitment, discipline and human values, this time with an inspiring physical feat. At the age of 70, the BJP MLA successfully completed a long-distance cycling journey from Bengaluru to Kanyakumari, motivating many young people across the state.
Suresh Kumar covered a distance of about 702 kilometres in nearly 37 hours of cycling time, reaching the southernmost tip of India on December 27, 2025. He undertook the journey along with around 15 friends, setting out from Bengaluru on December 23. The achievement comes as a strong message of determination, especially considering the serious health setback he faced just last year.

Explaining the emotional reason behind the journey, Suresh Kumar recalled his first cycling trip to Kanyakumari exactly 50 years ago.
On December 25, 1974, he had cycled to Kanyakumari with two close friends, Hiriyur’s Adivalada Sri Venkatesh Tanyasi Gownder and Rajajinagar’s Sri Somanath. At that time, he was actively involved as a grassroots worker during the construction of the Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial, going door to door selling coupons to raise funds.
Inspired by that phase of his life, he had then decided to visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial by cycle. The trio reached Kanyakumari after four days of cycling and had darshan at the memorial, marking a memorable moment in their youth.

Suresh Kumar said he had a strong desire to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that historic cycle journey by repeating the same feat last year. However, a severe health crisis on August 16, 2024, prevented him from fulfilling the plan. Regaining strength and confidence over time, he finally realised his dream this year.
Sharing from the Kanyakumari seashore, he said completing the journey brought deep personal satisfaction. Reflecting on his health condition during the same period last year, he added that this achievement with friends has greatly boosted his confidence.
