Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad blocked Governor Gehlot after his one-line speech; robe torn in scuffle, he demanded Gehlot resign for acting unconstitutionally
Tensions flared in the Karnataka Legislature on Thursday when Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad blocked Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot as he attempted to leave the Assembly after delivering only a one-line speech.
Governor Gehlot, who had declined to read the government-drafted address, limited his remarks to a brief statement before walking out of the joint session. His abrupt exit angered Congress members, with Hariprasad standing in front of the Governor and demanding that he read the full speech prepared by the state government.
As security personnel tried to clear the way for Gehlot, Hariprasad was pushed aside, resulting in the lower part of his white robe being torn. The incident escalated tensions further, with Hariprasad alleging that BJP members were responsible for tearing his attire from behind.

Speaking to reporters, Hariprasad accused the Governor of acting ‘unconstitutionally’ and claimed that Gehlot had lost the authority and moral standing required of his office. He demanded that the Governor resign and return to Madhya Pradesh, his home state.
The confrontation comes amid a larger dispute between the Congress government and the Governor over the content of the Assembly address, which reportedly contained criticism of the Union government. The incident has added fuel to the ongoing political standoff in Karnataka.
