Second breakfast meeting within days signals a strategic show of solidarity as leadership-change tensions ease in Karnataka Congress.

Just days after heated exchanges and leadership-related friction surfaced online, the Congress in Karnataka is once again turning to “breakfast diplomacy” to restore calm. In a significant development, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will visit Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s residence this morning for a second round of breakfast discussions, an event the party views as key to demonstrating unity.

The meeting follows the high command’s directive encouraging both leaders to step into the public eye together and downplay any signs of division during a politically sensitive period. The gesture of solidarity comes at a time when debates over the “promise” of leadership rotation had ignited intense conversations within the party.

Today’s menu at Shivakumar’s Sadashivanagar residence reflects a deliberate personal touch. A spread of vegetarian, non-vegetarian and sweet dishes has been arranged for the CM. At the centre of the preparation is Siddaramaiah’s favourite: nati koli saaru, along with Kanakapura-style nati koli fry. Shivakumar’s family has taken special effort to prepare the dishes despite the DyCM himself having recently given up non-vegetarian food following advice from a seer.

Siddaramaiah is expected to arrive around 9:30 a.m., after which the two leaders will hold an internal discussion. As per party insiders, this round of talks is likely to address key coordination issues while reinforcing the message that the CM and DyCM remain “brother-like” partners in governance. The earlier breakfast meeting at the CM’s Cauvery residence had included MLA Ponnanna, but the guest list for today remains undisclosed, adding a layer of intrigue.

Opposition leaders, including D.V. Sadananda Gowda and BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra, have already taken a swipe at the optics, even as Congress ministers call the meeting a positive sign. For now, the visible tension around leadership change appears to have cooled, with both leaders preparing to once again stand together and project harmony.

Still, the underlying question remains: what strategy will the high command eventually adopt, and how will the political landscape shift in the coming months? For today, however, unity is back on the menu, served with nati koli saaru.
