  • CET coaching planned at KREIS colleges after PU exams
  • 6,000 students selected from over 10,000 applicants
  • Programme targets poor and rural students

After the PU exams, the School Education Department will begin CET coaching at KREIS colleges across Karnataka to help talented students who cannot afford private coaching.

In a major move to support students from economically weaker and rural backgrounds, the Karnataka School Education Department has decided to provide CET coaching at KREIS colleges across the state. The initiative is aimed at helping talented students who find it difficult to afford private coaching for the highly competitive Common Entrance Test (CET).

CET is often considered a tough challenge by many students, especially those from poor families. With this decision, the department hopes to bridge the gap between merit and access to quality coaching.

According to the plan, around 6,000 students will be given structured CET training at Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) colleges. The CET examination is scheduled to be held statewide on April 23 and 24.

The second PUC examinations will take place from February 28 to March 17. Once these exams are completed, CET coaching will begin at selected KREIS institutions. The coaching will be conducted by experienced resource persons arranged district-wise.

The department has prepared a detailed master plan to ensure that students from rural and economically disadvantaged sections receive focused academic support during this crucial phase.

The PU Board had earlier invited applications from eligible students, which received an overwhelming response of more than 10,000 applicants. After scrutiny, the Education Department has finalised a list of 6,000 students who will be enrolled for the coaching programme.

Training will be organised at district-level KREIS colleges. Resource persons identified for each district will be paid an honorarium for their services. Students attending the coaching will be required to stay at residential education institutions during the training period.

While the initiative has been widely welcomed, officials acknowledge that ensuring students stay back in residential institutions after exams could be a challenge. The success of the programme will largely depend on student participation and smooth coordination at the district level.

Sources from the Education Department confirmed to News First that preparations are already underway to roll out the coaching programme as scheduled.
