One killed, four injured in helium cylinder blast at Mysuru Palace gate during winter fest, causing panic among crowds; victims rushed to K R Hospital
A tragic accident occurred at the Jayamarthanda gate of Mysuru Palace on Thursday evening when a helium gas cylinder exploded, killing one person and injuring four others. The blast took place around 8:45 pm, creating panic among the large crowd gathered for the ongoing winter festival.
The incident reportedly happened while a balloon vendor was filling balloons using the cylinder he had brought. The injured were immediately rushed to K R Hospital for treatment. Among them, Bengaluru-based Lakshmi is said to be in critical condition, while Manjula from Nanjangud, Shaahin Shabbir from Kolkata, and Kotreshi from Renebennur sustained injuries.

The explosion occurred at a time when the palace premises were packed with visitors enjoying the Christmas holiday, flower show, and cultural programs. The nearby Dasara Exhibition grounds also had heavy footfall, adding to the chaos and fear triggered by the blast.
Police teams quickly reached the site to manage the situation and assist the injured. Special squads, including forensic experts, anti-sabotage units, and dog squads, were deployed to investigate the cause of the explosion and ensure public safety. Authorities are gathering details about the victims and circumstances surrounding the accident.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at public events, especially in crowded heritage locations like Mysuru Palace.
