After NewsFirst’s explosive report on RERA corruption, opposition leaders R. Ashok and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy launch scathing attack on Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and the government for turning a blind eye to alleged loot.
Karnataka’s Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA) is once again under fire, this time over allegations that it has turned into a “collection centre” rather than a watchdog protecting homebuyers.
The controversy follows a detailed NewsFirst investigative report that exposed widespread irregularities, commission-fixing, and alleged collusion between officials, builders, and even ministers. The report highlighted how homebuyers and flat purchasers are facing injustice, with approvals for projects and layouts allegedly coming at a cost of crores in bribes, a burden ultimately borne by buyers.

‘K-RERA is a Collection Centre,’ says R. Ashok
Leader of Opposition R. Ashok did not mince words, stating that “K-RERA has become a collection centre. Instead of protecting buyers, it is exploiting them. Every project approval, every layout permission has a fixed rate, either per table, per site, or per flat.” He added that the very law meant to prevent cheating of homebuyers is now allegedly being used to extort them, leading to skyrocketing apartment and site prices across Bengaluru.
Chalavadi Narayanaswamy calls govt ‘Loot-Driven’
Leader of Opposition of the Karnataka Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy echoed similar sentiments, calling the government “corrupt and dishonest.”
“This government came to power not by speaking truth but by lies. Now it is looting fearlessly and protecting those who exploit citizens. Every department is engaged in corruption,” he said, accusing the government of giving a free hand to officials.

Minister Zameer’s ‘Silent Meeting’
Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, under whose department K-RERA functions, said he had spoken to officials and “called a meeting at 6 PM,” but no meeting was reportedly held. His silence and inaction have triggered further criticism from citizens and the opposition, who accuse him of shielding wrongdoers.
Government’s silence raises questions
Despite the uproar, the government has not issued any clarification. With opposition, activists, and buyers demanding answers, questions remain over why Chief Minister and Deputy CM are silent about alleged loot and fixed commissions running from officials to ministers.
